Chris Van Dusen is coming!

PES friends, it is so exciting that Chris Van Dusen is coming to visit our school! Over the next two weeks we will be reading his many wonderful books.  In the library we'll start with my favorite: The Circus Ship.

5th graders, how is The Circus Ship similar to the real-life ship The Royal Tar?  How is it different?

  1. the ships both sunk an some animals survived but not all animals survived in the real ship and in the book they hit a rock but in the royal tar there was a fire.

  2. I think they are similar because they both sank and they had circus aniamls on it and the differences is that are in the book Circus Ship it had a greaty captin and in The Royal Tar it did not have a greaty capti.

  3. They are the same because they have animals and a boat sank.In real life only 2 horses were saved and the rest died. In the book they all the animals lived but they had to swim all day and night. They had to make it out with no help.

  6. In the circus ship there was a circus on board and the animals got off the boat and were OK and in real life there was also animals on board and a couple made it off the ship. They were also different because in the book there was only a circus and two men but in real life there were a bunch of people on board and there was a circus. Also in the book the hit a ledge in the boat starts to sink but in real life the ship went up in flames and a crowd of people went to come and help the Royal Tar after it went up in flames. Lastly in the story all the animals were alive and in real life only the two horses survived but people think the elephant was alive because there was rumors there was huge bones of a mammal the size of an elephant.

  8. I think in the book The Circus ship it was a good book and also when the boats sank the animals swam to the end of the river and the animals liked the people The people also liked the animals. The lion helped the child that was in the fire and the people felt safe about that.

the differences are that on the royal tar only a copule animals survived on the other one all the animals survived. Another reason is that on the circus ship the animals dressed up and hide but in the other one almost all of them died.
