5th graders, you have been learning about explorers and exploration. Can you imagine what it would be like to leave your home and family to adventure off to unknown lands? Well, as you know, that's what over one hundred men, women and children did when they left England in 1587 and landed just north of Roanoke.
What became of this first colony is a mystery! We have many clues and read about some of them last week. This week, I'd like you to use Searchasaurus, a database in MARVEL, to do a little more research about the mysterious Roanoke Colony.

Using the information that you learned from reading Roanoke: The Lost Colony: An Unsolved Mystery from History and the article you just read, what do you think happened to the colonists at Roanoke? What evidence do you have to support this theory?
I think the colonists were killed and buried by the Indians because the name of a Indian on a tree and they could not find them.

ReplyDeleteI think that the solders were forced to go to Spain because they only found one skeleton and no others, and they were forced to join because they wanted more to join the army. There was only one skeleton because the person didn't wanna go and he got killed. I also think that in the 2nd attempt to claim Roanoke Colony they left the colony to join the natives or to live on their own because there was sightings of Blond hair and blue eyed natives.

ReplyDeleteMy theory of what happen to Roanoke Colony is that they joined and married the Croatoan Indians. My evidence is people saw Indians with blond hair and blue eyes, and the Indians didn't have blue eyes and blond hair. They had black and brown hair with brown eyes.

ReplyDeleteWhen they were never found it took them over 400 years to find Roanoke Colony.when they got in the small boat they sunk and never found the Roanoke Colony.

ReplyDeleteMy theory is that i think they where in a really bad storm and crashed the boat. Then I think a big huge wave came and almost sank the island and they all left and crashed the boat then they went and almost all died. Then a Indian found a girl who was blond and had blue eyes they she started to have kids then she had a baby boy and he was blond and blue eyed and then someone tryed to kill her and they did then the dad and son died but they had a girl then she married a boy and then they where all happy then a lot more people died after that there was a lot of killing and only a girl and boy where left on the island. But they went to a different island.
